HERITAGE VILLAGES AND ARCHITECTURAL RESERVES - the unique Bulgarian craftsmanship
All the museum villages from the National Revival Period /the Bulgarian Renaissance - 18th and 19th century/ reflect the longing of the Bulgarians for beauty and harmony in their everyday life. Narrow cobblestone streets lead up to heavy wooden gates with iron locks and doorknobs, behind which are hidden lovely gardens with blooming flowers and neat houses. The architecture of the houses with the curved bay windows, ornate wooden ceilings, painted facades and lacework balconies reflect the hospitality of the Bulgarians. Rugs and carpets in vivid colors cover the floors inside. Space and air are everywhere ''giving one a sense of freedom, of a spirit bound to the earth that gave life''. A lot of the houses have been rebuilt with tourism in mind.
